One of the hardest parts of sticking with the Atkins diet approach is the cravings for carbohydrates. When carbohydrate cravings hit, it is time to find a better, lower carb, alternative.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • High Fat Foods
  • Water
Step1
Understand your craving. There will be times on Atkins when you crave carbohydrates or sugars. These cravings are directly related to spikes and drop in blood glucose levels.
Step2
Drink more water. At the first sign of a sugar craving, drink a large glass of water. This should hold off the craving for a short time.
Step3
Eat something high in fat. Atkins is all about balance and changing the body from a carb burning to a fat burning energy machine. If you are craving carbohydrates, feed your body fat!
Step4
Suggestions for Snacks: Sprinkle a zero carb sweetener on a pat of real butter, mix 1 tbsp of butter with 1 tsp of cream cheese and 1 packet of sugar substitute.

Tips & Warnings

  • Carbohydrate or sugar cravings mean blood glucose levels are not stable.
  • Never eat sugar while on Atkins.
