1. Find the right water distiller. Water distillers for home use vary in price from just under $100 to more than $500. The higher priced models will normally distill more water in one cycle.

2. Set up the water distiller. After you have purchased your water distiller for home use, read the directions carefully. If there are children in the house, it is important to keep the distiller out of their reach. Water is boiled, steam collected and water regained during the process.

3. Add water and wait. Distilling water normally takes 4 hours per gallon. While there are a few water distillers on the market for home use that take less time, these are simply priced higher to save a few minutes.
