Most phones even come with music down loads, which may not be important to parents, but to teens, it is. This is there way of knowing who is calling before they answer. Picture phones are great for a quick click of friends and family.

If the teen begins to slip with the grades, the phone is there lifeline, so they will not want to give it up. This can be a great bargaining chip for parents if the teen does not get it together. Teens having cellphones is also a excellent way of knowing where your child is at all times. Having a phone is a responsibility, so you have to impress upon them about minutes and keeping track of the phone.

  4. Step 4

Having a device to communicate in case of an emergency could be a lifesaver. Knowing when your child is capable of taking care of the phone is key. Purchase insurance on the phone if it is lost or stolen.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check with your cellphone carrier about which phones are on sale.
  • Remember, camera phones are great, but if dropped, the whole phone could be damaged.
  • Ask the salesperson in-depth questions about the phone, including the return policy, before you buy it.
  • If you get a phone and buy minutes, read the policy on loading minutes as well as losing minutes, and how that can occur.
  • Only you can determine when your teen is ready.
