How to Survive Veteran Difficulty in Call of Duty 4

The hardest of the hard, Veteran difficulty level cuts down how many hits it takes to kill you, how many special weapons you find (eg: RPGs, Machineguns) and dramatically reduces the time you have for mission events like rescuing the VIP or issuing the nuke abort codes. When the game says “You will not survive”, it’s not kidding! Veteran is HARD, but can be immensely rewarding if you like a challenge.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Stay behind cover AT ALL TIMES. This was important before, but is essential on Veteran. Sticking your head out for any length of time is potentially fatal, and it takes very few bullets for you to meet your maker. Be smart, be safe and move from cover to cover. Even cubicle walls are better than nothing; at least they stop the enemy from getting a clean shot at you.
Step2
Use flashbangs. If you didn’t use these before, use them now! These will be your best friend when you’re trying to get from Point A to Point B, across a line of fire. Chuck one near the enemy, then run across or shoot him while he’s blinded. You’ll have about three seconds before he collects his wits enough to take a crack at you again.
Step3
Remember your other goodies. Air Support, Claymores, C4 and rifle-attached Grenade Launchers can make all the difference in the world. While you may not have needed them on easier difficulty modes, they will help a lot here. Use them whenever you’re having trouble getting past a certain point.
Step4
Learn to move quickly. Several levels have time constraints, all of which are a lot shorter on Veteran than on any other difficulty level. Get used to pushing through tight spots as quickly as possible, otherwise the U.S. east coast is going to be quiet place for quite a while.
Step5
Reload often. Charging into battle with half a magazine is a bad idea. Doing it on Veteran is a really bad idea. Make sure you’re behind cover before you reload.
Step6
Do whatever it takes to get the enemy before he can shoot you! It only takes 3 shots to bring you down on Veteran, so do what you have to to keep the enemy at arm’s length. Sniper rifles like the M-21 and the Druganov are great for this, but they won’t always be available.
