Yoga is just as popular as crocheting has become. This Tunisian crochet will add some stiffness to the bag. Adding two plastic canvases cut to the shape of the sides will make the bag more flexible.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lion brand wool (158 yards)
  • I/9 crochet hook
  • Buttons
  • Plastic canvas

How to Make a Tunisian Crochet Yoga Bag

  1. Step 1

The first thing is to learn the basic stitches needed to create the project. The Tunisian Simple Stitch (tss) has two types of foundation stitches: a Foundation Forward Pass (FwdP) and a Foundation Return Pass (RetP).

Foundation Forward Pass (FwdP) Insert hook through ridge loop on the backside of the 2nd chain, yarn over and pull up a loop, leave loop on hook, pull up a loop through the ridge loop of each chain across the remaining stitches. The first loop counts as first stitch.

Foundation Return Pass (RetP) Yarn over and pull through first loop on the hook (1 ch made), * yarn over, draw through 2 loops on the hook; repeat from the asterisk until 1 loop remands. Do not turn.

  2. Step 2

    To create the body:
    With Main color ch 62.

Work one row of Tss Foundation Fwdp and row two in the RetP stitch. Continue this pattern for 59 more rows. Fasten off.

  3. Step 3

The sides (you need to make two):
With Main color ch2 with a standard crochet hook, I/9.

Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from the hook, sl st in first sc to join- 6sts in total.
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in the first sc, * 2sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in first sc to join- 12 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 4: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 5: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 3 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 6: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 4 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 7: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 5 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 8: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 6 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 9: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 7 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 10: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 8 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join.
Row 11: Ch 1, *sc on the next sc, 9 sc in the next sc; repeat from * around, sl st in the first sc to join. Fasten off.

  4. Step 4

    Finishing the bag.

Simply match the body of the bag around the sides and whip stitch with Main color. Then add a strap either by braiding a strap or chaining. Add some decorative buttons with yarn hooks. The finishing is where you can add your personal touches. Don't forget to tack down the plastic canvases for the sides down.
