Valentine's Day is near and my children have been asking me to help them make special homemade card for them to give out to special people. So, I created this simply popup quilling card that can be easily created. Changing the quilling shapes and colors can create different ones without having to design a complete new card.

From Quick Guide: Introduction to Quilling
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A piece of red card stock
  • Quilling tools
  • Quilling sheets in your choice of colors
  • Glue

How to make a popup quilling Valentine's card

  1. Step 1

Create a large heart with two small hearts located at an angle toward the bottom of the large heart.

Cut the heart print-out and the background of the card.

  2. Step 2

Using a ruler as a guide, you need to score the dotted lines in the heart cutout. You are only scoring the heart shape for ease when you need to fold it.

Flip the pop-up piece over so that the dotted lines are not visible.
Fold heart print-out over from the right to the left side and crease the fold line.

Take the small heart and fold over to the right and crease the flat.

  3. Step 3

Flip the piece over and do the same to the over small heart.
The popup piece should have the crease to the big heart point toward you while the two hearts are able to lie flat.

  4. Step 4

Now you want to fill the edge of the large heart with teardrops. Teardrops are created by making a loose roll that comes out to ½ inch. Then you glue and pinch one side to create the teardrop shape. Use two colors of teardrops to create a dramatic look.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want, you can make heart shapes with your teardrops by simply taking a sharp tool and making an indentation in the center of the round of your teardrop.
