Cleaning up after Christmas, you notice that old lace tablecloth that never gets much use anymore. You realize that you have an old skirt in your closet that could use a few extra inches, and fringed-in old crocheted lace might be just the touch it needs. If you're nimble with a needle and thread, you can fuse the two fabrics for a unique and charming garment. Follow these steps for an easy addition of lace.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Straight pins
  • Needle and thread or sewing machine
  • Lace tablecloth
  • Skirt
  • Tape measure or ruler
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Lay your lace tablecloth on the floor, spread out in a circle.

  2. Step 2

Lay your skirt on top of the lace tablecloth.

  3. Step 3

Measure and pin lace tablecloth at the desired length, where you want the added lace trim to begin on the skirt. If the tablecloth is much longer than you need, pull the tablecloth up to the desired length and pin. Excess tablecloth will have to be cut from the side of the circle, and lace circle stitched up that side.

  4. Step 4

Cut the lace tablecloth above the pins.

  5. Step 5

Fold the top of the lace 1/2 inch underneath and sew the tablecloth around the pinned circle perimeter, on the underside of the skirt hem.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to attach the lace tablecloth to the outside of the skirt, simply lay the skirt down first and the tablecloth on top. Then the skirt will be visible through the lace decorating the outside.
