Things You'll Need:

  • Your soulmate
  • The ring
  1. Step 1
    Central Park
    Central Park

    Central Park

With its 843 acres, Central Park is a true oasis in NYC. And if you're thinking of proposing here, you couldn't find a better place to do it. Be it winter, spring, summer or fall, you're bound to find a spot here that will enhance the romantic mood--try proposing at the park's Wollman Ice Skating Rink in the winter, the Central Park Zoo in the fall, the Central Park Conservatory Garden in the spring or the Park's very own carousel in the summer. Either way, Central Park is truly a place for lovers.

Central Park is situated between 59th and 110th Streets, between Fifth and Eight Avenues.

  2. Step 2
    Empire State Building
    Empire State Building

    Empire State Building

It's been the sight of romance in countless Hollywood movies and if you want to live your very own love story, then the observation deck of the Empire State Building is the place to do it. (The observation deck is open from 8 AM until 2 AM so if you can time your proposal at an hour when it seems less crowded, you may just have the observation deck all to yourselves--now isn't THAT romantic?)

The Empire State Building is located on 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.

  3. Step 3
    Rockefeller Center
    Rockefeller Center

    Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center offers several of the best places in New York City for a marriage proposal. If your special someone loves ice skating, the ice rink at Rockefeller Center is a wonderful place to propose. Private skate times can be arranged and the proposal can even be filmed. At Holiday time, standing in front of the beautifully decorated Christmas tree can be a magical moment and a memorable time to propose.

There's also the Top of The Rock, the observation deck located at 30 Rockefeller Center. This 70th story observation deck offers viewers a completely unobstructed 360 degree view. The city is magnificent during the day and twinkles below you at night. It includes a panorama of Central Park and the northern half of Manhattan that cannot be found anywhere else. Also visible are the Chrysler Building, Times Square, the Hudson River, the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty--it's a spectacular view in New York City and a magical place to propose.

Rockefeller Center is located at 47th-51st Streets between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

  4. Step 4
    Lincoln Center
    Lincoln Center

    Lincoln Center

Propose by the glow of Lincoln Center's Revson Fountain and end a night at the opera with your special surprise.

Lincoln Center is located between 62nd Street and 65th Streets on Columbus Avenue.

  5. Step 5
    Carriage ride
    Carriage ride

    A carriage ride around Manhattan

What says romance more than snuggling up with your special someone in the back of a plush horse-drawn carriage? These hansom cabs offer one of the most romantic rides of your lives. Drivers will provide a blanket if there is a chill in the air and will even take pictures as you ask the special question. Of course you have to let him know your plans ahead of time.

  6. Step 6
The Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

    Metropolitan Museum of Art

One of the most spectacular places to propose is at the museum's rooftop sculpture garden, which also has a bar area. Another romantic location in the museum is the room with the Temple of Dendur--very exotic and very romantic!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located on 86th Street and Fifth Avenue.

  7. Step 7
    The 21 Club
    The 21 Club

    The 21 Club

The last of NYC's really elegant supperclubs, the staff at "21" will ensure your proposal goes perfectly at this NYC landmark where Humphrey Bogart once proposed to Lauren Bacall.

The 21 Club is located at 21 W 52nd Street.

  8. Step 8
    Tiffany's
    Tiffany's

    Tiffany's

Whether or not you buy the ring here, what could be more romantic than making your beloved feel like Holly Golightly herself!

Tiffany's is located at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Tips & Warnings
  • NYC is the city that never sleeps (and affords very little privacy). So don't be surprised if your romantic gesture turns into a show for your fellow New Yorkers. But hey, it's NYC, it's romance, it's all good!
