San Francisco is a mecca for artists and musicians alike. Here are some tips on finding great live music during your visit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Local periodicals
  • Walking shoes
  1. Step 1

Decide what you're in the mood for. Big name rock bands will lead you to the major music venues, while smaller indie groups will play and a number of local bars and lounges. Jazz, Blues, classical or punk: San Francisco has a place to suit your taste.

  2. Step 2

Pick up a copy of the SF Weekly or The Guardian. These are local periodicals that have extensive entertainment sections. All information relating to venue, tickets and parking will be found in these papers. This will help you narrow down your search considerably.

  3. Step 3

Searching for something a bit more cultural? San Francisco boasts a world class symphony and thriving opera season. Information on both can be found online, or by your hotel concierge. if you are planning an evening at either, book your tickets well in advance of your trip.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do plenty of research on the neighborhood venues before venturing out.
  • Find out about parking--it can be a scarcity in certain areas and for popular bands.
  • See if you qualify for student or senior discounts on opera or symphony tickets.
  • Don't buy tickets from scalpers--ever.
  • Be safe for nightlife fun.
