Small appliances like crock pots, bread machines and toaster ovens can be expensive to be purchased new. There are places to look where you can find these small appliances gently used and sometimes new in the box.
Make a list of the small appliances you would like to have in your home.
Step2
Visit the thrift shops in your area. Get to know the cashier behind the counter. Let him know what you are looking for and leave them with your phone number. Many times these clerks will be more than happy to let you know an item has come into the shop.
Step3
Visit local flea markets. Like thrift shops, many booth vendors will sell small appliances they have picked up at auctions and garage sales.
Step4
Take a weekend to do the yard sale circuit in your community. Often, people receive these items as gifts and will sell them for a very modest price.
Step5
Visit local auction houses. Be careful though as bidders can get caught up in the action and the item may cost more than buying new.
Step6
Post an ad on your local Freecycle mailing list. This is one of the best ways to get something almost new for no money at all.
Tips & Warnings
If purchasing from a thrift store, yard sale or flea market ask to be allowed to plug the item in and make sure it works.
Inspect all electric cords for signs of fraying or rips. A busted cord can be a fire hazard.
