You may or may not have seen these "Lost" billboards for the fictional airline Oceanic Air, one of which popped up in my hometown of Knoxville, TN. (Update May 11, 2008) The main portions of these websites are now unavailable. You can browse through them and find a messgage, but the original things I found are no longer there. Just want to save you some time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A computer with an Internet connection.
  • Desire to explore a very interesting set of websites associated with the show "Lost."

Step1
The first place you want to start is with the site that was listed prior to the billboards being spray painted. This site is www.flyoceanicair.com. There will be a video there, as well as a downloadable press release the Oceanic Air will now be resuming flights in several cities. These cities include Knoxville, TN (which makes me wonder if this is everywhere). I know that Ames, IA has had similar billboards appear in their area also.
Step2
Within a few weeks of the original billboard, the website find815.com was found spray painted across it. We occasionally have a problem with people tagging billboards, but this was done on purpose by the advertising company. This site has a lot more information that you can explore.
Step3
(Only a still picture as of May 11, 2008) Now you can follow the character Sam Thomas in his search for Flight 815 and what happened to his flight attendant partner, Sonya. Just as a general rule, hover over different objects to see if you're able to click on them or not. You'll discover a lot of interesting information. Be sure to go back to previous chapters as well, as this site continues to be updated.

Note that you can also save your progress on the find815.com site and catch yourself up as far as story, clues, and information. The "My Progress" bar will help you if you missed something. This is the portion I really don't want to give away too much because it takes all the fun out of it.

Even if you're not a fan, it's impressive how much work went into these sites. I think it's very creative.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look in the lower right corner, and you'll see a timeline on how many hours and minutes before the site is updated.
  • Did you know that the movie Cloverfield has a small version of a secret site, which is www.1-18-08.com. I think they may have some of the same production people involved. If you go to it and do it correctly, you can use your mouse to flip over the photos and look on the back.
