It's Easy and Fun!

Want to connect with others who are reading the same nonfiction book as you? Want to be able to dig deeper into topics such as politics, health, fitness and medicine? Create your own online book study and invite everyone you know.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Book
  • Computer access
  1. Step 1

First, choose the nonfiction book that interests you. Picking a fairly current book will help in finding others who may be interested in discussing it as well.

  2. Step 2

Find a free service like Blogger or Wordpress to create a page where you can upload the cover of the book or create a link to Amazon for others to find the book.

If you feel you'll be doing several book studies, give your site a name that expresses what your online study is about.

  3. Step 3

With the use of Google Tools you can create a schedule or time line for reading the whole book or work your way through chapters and meet up to discuss every other week.

Using a message board or the comment sections on a blog, you can have a "discussion" at your convenience.

  4. Step 4

Don't overload your site with too much stuff but do add links to other places, websites and books that may pertain to your current study.

  5. Step 5

Create some general questions to get the discussion going. Get the other readers involved in digging deeper into the book with questions that go beyond just asking "did you like it?"

  6. Step 6

Include an email subscription from Feedburner where users can subscribe with their email address and will be notified every time the blog is updated.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create a welcome section that lays down some basic rules before you share your online site.
  • If you are creating a blog to bring local people together to read a book, be sure to advertise in your local paper, school or library notices to let the locals know that the book study is going on.
