If the idea of wearing blue eyeshadow seems outdated or too far out of your usual makeup palette, you may be surprised to find a few shades that actually do complement your skin and eye color. Blue eyeshadow can be worn both day and night, and can be especially flattering for blue, brown, and hazel eye colors. Looking for a makeup makeover? Here's what you need to wear blue eyeshadow the right way.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two shades of blue eyeshadow
  • Tan, nude or light beige eyeshadow
  • Dark blue eyeliner
  • Silver shimmer powder
  • Eyeshadow applicator
  • Makeup sponge
  • Black mascara
  • Eyeshadow primer
  1. Step 1

Apply a thin layer of eyeshadow primer. This will help keep your eyeshadow and eyeliner in place.

  2. Step 2

Apply a line of blue eyeliner. Create a very thin line just above your lashes before applying the actual color. This helps create a strong and attractive effect as you begin to layer.

  3. Step 3

Start with a tan or light beige eyeshadow color. This is important for that first layer up to your browbone. Apply this with your eyebrow applicator and blend.

  4. Step 4

Add the next layer of dark blue eyeshadow. Apply the darker of the two shades up to the crease of the eye and blend very well.

  5. Step 5

Add the last layer of blue eyeshadow. This needs to be just one to two shades lighter than the darkest shade, and can be applied up to the middle of the eyelid and blended. This creates a high impact, bold look.

  6. Step 6

Finish the eyes with one more application of eyeliner. Apply a thin and crease-free line of blue eyeliner to complete the look.

  7. Step 7

Add 1 or 2 coats of mascara to lashes for the ultimate look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear very light, neutral colors on the rest of your face so your eyes really do stand out.
  • Avoid applying blue eyeshadow all the way up to the browbone; settle for a light skin-colored eyeshadow color if you want to use something in that area.
  • Try false lashes for an extra-bold look for the evening.
  • Don't layer blue eyeshadow with blue mascara or black eyeliner.
  • Never match your outfit with your eyeshadow color; for blue eyeshadow, pick clothing in neutrals such as beige, white, tan, and khaki for the best ensemble.
