Blue eye shadow is obviously for that person who isn't concerned about a natural look. It's also a shade some people may ignore because it doesn't figure to match skin and eye color. However, blue eye shadow can be worn both day and night, and can be especially flattering for blue, brown, and hazel eye colors. It just needs to be applied in the right way so it makes the eyes stand out without looking cartoonish. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Two shades of blue eye shadow
  • Tan, nude or light beige eye shadow
  • Dark blue eyeliner
  • Silver shimmer powder

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a thin layer of primer. This will help keep the rest of the makeup in place.

    • 2

Apply a thin line of blue eyeliner just above your lashes before applying the actual color. This helps create a strong and attractive effect as you begin to layer.

    • 3

Place a layer of tan or light beige eye shadow color on the eyes. This layer must reach the browbone. Apply this with your eyebrow applicator and blend.

    • 4

Add a layer of dark blue eye shadow. Apply the darker of the two shades up to the crease of the eye and blend very well.

    • 5

Add the last layer of blue eye shadow. This needs to be just one to two shades lighter than the darkest shade, and can be applied up to the middle of the eyelid and blended. This creates a high impact, bold look.

    • 6

Finish the eyes with one more application of eyeliner. Apply a thin and crease-free line of blue eyeliner and up to two coats of mascara to the lashes to complete the look.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear light, neutral colors on the rest of your face so the blue stands out.

  • Avoid applying the blue shades all the way up to the browbone.

  • Don't layer blue eye shadow with blue mascara or black eyeliner.

  • Never match your outfit with your eye shadow color; for blue, pick clothing in neutrals such as beige, white, tan, and khaki for the best ensemble.
