Nothing goes better with a pasta dinner than great garlic bread. Leftover garlic bread with scrambled eggs ain't bad either. If you just want a quick munch, garlic bread and a glass of wine will make your whole afternoon better.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One large loaf unsliced French bread (regular or sourdough)
  • 5 to 6 cloves garlic, peeled (or to taste)
  • 1/2 lb. butter, in 2 tbsp. pieces
  • 3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup fresh herbs (parsley, basil, thyme, oregano, marjoram, your choice)
  • Sharp bread knife
  • Spatula
  • Food processor with metal blade
  • Foil to wrap entire loaf completely
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Start food processor running. Drop garlic cloves through the feed tube one at a time, with the motor still running. Once garlic is completely chopped, turn off motor and remove lid.

  2. Step 2

Add butter, olive oil, pepper and herbs. Replace lid. Process in short bursts until mixture is combined. Remove lid and scrape down sides with spatula.

  3. Step 3

Continue processing until mixture is light and fluffy and thoroughly combined.

  4. Step 4

Slice bread in two halves lengthwise. Spread each half with half the butter mixture, then reassemble loaf. Wrap thoroughly in foil.

  5. Step 5

Place garlic loaf in oven for 10 minutes. Turn loaf over and bake for another ten minutes. Remove from oven, slice foil open and slice bread to serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is the best garlic bread you've ever tasted. Try not to eat it all before dinner is served.
  • Save a few pieces to have with soup the next day or simply make more.
  • Keep this garlic spread on hand for whenever.
  • Don't make a pig of yourself; save some for everyone else.
