How to Make a Web page from Word

At the time I wanted to do a page of my own I knew nothing about computers or web pages but I wanted to do a page of my own, a very personal page, I couldn't understand the programs that were out at that time so an actual web page designer told me I had the easiest program already on my computer... Microsoft Word. So I had a go even though I have been told Web pages can not be made in word. But I did do my web page from Word and has actually been archived by the National Library for all time. Ok it may not be the best way to make a web page if you wish to be selling on line, for security reasons but my page is just an information page, so it is good enough for what I wanted a page for. Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
make a folder in "My Documents" to store your work. Open a "word" document and click on "web page view" This is the canvas for your "Home" page. It is a good idea to "Save" this into your web page folder so you can save as you go along. So click on "Save as web page" This page must be saved as "index" as all main pages of a web page. So it would be http://www.name/index
Step2
Back to your Word page click on the "tables" here we work on how many columns you want and I work on one section at a time, so for the top of the page we always want headings and links so I choose 2 columns and 1 line. Column A is for the index links on this page, column B is for web page name and actual page heading.
No need to worry too much about lines here as that part expands as you go along, the columns is the important part.
Step3
In column A you can either add all the links to your pages if you know what names you are going to make them or add them as you go along. So first link is the Home page link itself..
Click on "Hyperlink" it will have to be http://www.nameofwebpage/index and in the display you put "Home".
In Column B add the name of the web page if you like at the top and using text or Word art put in the name you want for your front page...
There you have your first section... click on "Save" which will save your work to your "index" page in your folder.
Step4
For your next section click on the tables again, and work out how many columns you will need... 1 column if you want all text, 2 columns if you want a photo with text at the side of it and 3 columns if you would like a photo, text and photo. keep working with the tables until your are happy with your page then save it as you go along... you can join all the blocks up or leave them as is and go into the "Borders" part and make all the lines invisible and then go to "Format" and add a background to your page. And remember to hit "save"
Step5
For your next page click on a "new page' and you start all over again with the "tables".. but this time unless you want a complete index on every page you just need to put a "Back" hyperlink directed back to the index page http://www.nameofwebpage/index
Now every page you create will be save under that name. So each page will be saved as http://webpagename/pagename and a link to each page you do is to be added to the "Home page" so it is just a matter of linking each page to the "home" page and vice versa.
Step6
When you have your pages the way you want them then it is just a matter of uploading them to a ftp uploader to connect them to your "Web page Host"

Tips & Warnings

  • Always do hyperlinks in lower case.
  • Small is better for web pages
  • Give yourself time to learn as you go, you will pick things up.
  • Always remember to save as you go along.
  • Lighten the pixels in photos so it doesn't take so your page download quickly
