A Living Wreath
A Living Wreath

Once you've mastered the techniques of making a living wreath try making one with other types of plants. Use plants that are easy to root and keep moist until well established.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • wire wreath form
  • sheet moss [live if available]
  • potting soil
  • black plastic bag
  • floral pins
  • pachysandra cuttings
  • scissors
  • knife
  • wire
  • opt. ornaments
  • bow
  • lipped round tray
  1. Step 1

    Soak moss in water.

  2. Step 2

Line the wire wreath form with the wet sphagnum moss.

  3. Step 3

Evenly distribute potting soil on top of moss. Make sure it is as full as possible. Mist soil with water.

  4. Step 4

Cover soil with another layer of wet moss. Set aside.

  5. Step 5

Cut the black plastic garbage bag into long 3 inch strips.

  6. Step 6

Pick up wreath [being careful not to spill soil] and wrap the wreath as tightly as possible with the plastic bag strips overlapping as you go. Use pins to hold down ends.

  7. Step 7

Using knife, [flat side down] make small slits and put one cutting through each slit. Continue over entire wreath until full.

  8. Step 8

Place the wreath [flat side down]onto the tray. Add ornamentation and bow.
I added a crystal hurricane style lamp and candle to the center of the tray to make it a centerpiece but,you can also hang the wreath once the roots are established.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a potting soil that has fertilizer already in it- such as Miracle Grow
  • Make sure the tray you place your wreath on has a lip so that when you water it the water will not spill onto your table.
  • Mist plants often until well established.
