Step1
Paid Classified Ad Campaign
Here I'm referring to paying for ad space on a site that sells classified advertising. Not paying for a submission service that submits to thousands of free classified ads. There is a difference between the two.
In a nut shell, free classified ad sites tend to be overly saturated with ads. Therefore your ad will quickly get buried by other ads. If your ad can't be seen then what's the point? Paid classifieds guarantee that your site stays in view for a set period of time. Also, due to the fees charged, it weeds out the less than
serious marketer and leaves more visibility for the ads that are purchased.
Step2
b.) Know What To Look For
Once you have your ads ready, you need to know what to look for in a quality location for your ad. Remember, you're looking for sites that SELL classified ad space (not free space).
There are two types of sites that sell classified advertising. 1.) Sites that do nothing but offer classified ad space for sale. It's their sole purpose to sell ad space on their website. The downside to sites like this is most of their visitors are PLACING ads...and not READING them. If you buy ad space on a site
like this, what are your odds of your ad being read by a targeted prospect? Unfortunately not good. 2.) The second type of site, is a site that has a topic (such as Internet marketing, or dog health or whatever) and they offer classified advertising as a SIDELINE to their main purpose. Generally these ads will only
be the topic of the site.
Step3
c.) Know How To Find Valuable Sites That Sell Advertising
Here is a trick you will find helpful. Go to your favorite search engine. Type in a key word that matches your topic. For instance: If you are promoting a home business opportunity, type in "home business" or "business opportunity" (include the quotes). At the time that I am writing this, I went to the search engine Excite (www.excite.com) and typed in "home business" (with the quotes). Home Business Magazine came up number one. I then clicked on the Home Business Magazine link to look over the site to see if they offer paid advertising on their site.
Your goal here is to find sites that get loads of traffic. A site that comes up #1 in a search from a major search engine is likely getting loads of traffic. They are funneling in targeted people to their site who are interested in home business (in this example), not just people wanting to buy ads. Therefore, your ad will gain much more readership.
Step4
d.) What To Expect
Some sites will charge a monthly recurring fee until you cancel the ad, while others allow you to purchase a time frame in which your ad will remain visible until it expires. You'll find most classified ad sites are generally reasonable.
All sites are different, so you'll need to look and read with each site to know what their policies are etc.
e.) Be Diligent and Picky
When searching for quality places to advertise, be very diligent in your search. Be choosey. Being diligent to this fact will help you spend your money wisely and will better ensure your results. If there is anything about the site you don't trust or like...then go with your gut instinct and find another place to advertise.
f.) Keep Track
I recommend keeping good records of where you've placed your ads so you can keep track of when your ads will expire and/or where to go in case you want to edit your ads. A spreadsheet is a good way to keep track (I recommend Excel), or if you feel more comfortable use paper and pen. Regardless, good record keeping will make it much easier for you.
