Teaching your child to be organized takes time and patience. Follow these steps to start the process.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lead by example. Keep your areas tidy and organized.

  2. Step 2

Have a realistic expectations and rules. A young child may need more encouraging and some type of reward system.

  3. Step 3

Pick out colorful cubbies and make a game out of organizing and cleaning up.

  4. Step 4

Consider messy vs. dirty. Some children will never be as neat and organized as you would like them to be. Meet them halfway.

  5. Step 5

Get rid of excess stuff. It helps clean up a room right away.

Tips & Warnings
  • Donate an old item when you buy a new item for your child.
  • Make it a daily routine. Kids easily get overwhelmed if they have to clean up a weeks worth of stuff.
