This article will help you to adjust your pool cleaner to it's maximum effectiveness. It is written for those people with suction side pool cleaners- the kind you plug into your skimmer. If you follow these directions you will be able to correct hang ups (cleaner getting stuck in the same spot) and get the cleaner to go to the spots it's been missing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • screwdriver (maybe)
  • a comfortable chair
  • your favorite refreshments
  • 1/2 hour to 45 mins. of free time
  1. Step 1

Step one is to read step one. Here goes: Most suction side pool cleaners follow their hose. Please re-read that sentence. What will make your cleaner work it's very best is for you to watch not the cleaner but the hose.Pool returns(jets) pointed towards the surface will push the hose and the cleaner will be directed by the position the hose is pushed. So now that we know what to look for lets go to step 2.

  2. Step 2

Clean your pool filter. We want to have the best flow rate possible to do this job as quickly as possible. Note: Guys this may get you out of other honeydo's for awhile but she won't buy it forever. Once the filter is good and clean take your chair and refreshment poolside.

  3. Step 3

Watch the cleaner, and this time pay special attention to where the hose is when your cleaner gets stuck or has a hard time coming out of a corner or step etc. Most of the time it will be a simple matter of pointing your jets down or turning one to keep the hose from running down just one side of the pool. Above ground pool owners - you only have 1 return , you will need to put a diverter in your return line that makes it possible to direct the flow or the cleaner will only clean half of the pool

  4. Step 4

After you adjust your returns take a seat again and watch both the hose and the cleaner. If the cleaner hangs up on a step or ladder adjust your step jets or the closest one down and direct the flow at the cleaner itself to push it off a step or away from the ladder.

  5. Step 5

Here's where the screwdriver comes in. Sometimes the ring on your jets will be hard to turn ,insert the screwdriver into the jet and use it to point the return eyeball fitting. Once all jets are adjusted tighten all eyeball fittings and tell the kids to leave them alone. You may want to make a note to yourself of their position in case they get moved durning a party or whatever.

  6. Step 6

Finish your refreshment and enjoy the time your pool cleaner saves you by doing a large part of your pool work.
