The Motor City is revved up to support its GLBT community. All you need is a roadmap of gay destinations to set off on a fulfilling journey.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check out the Affirmations GLBT community center in the suburb of Ferndale. It offers everything from toddler playgroups to transgender AA meetings.

  2. Step 2

Visit the bars. The Rainbow Room, 6649 East 8 Mile Road, is the best known and there are nearly 20 others.

  3. Step 3

Show your pride! Volunteer to work with Motor City Pride for its annual festival during the first weekend in June. Or check out Detroit Black Pride's third weekend in July event.

  4. Step 4

Be part of the Detroit Steering Committee of the Human Rights Campaign and help plan the group's annual gala.

  5. Step 5

Locate and shop gay-owned businesses through the Rainbow Law website. You'll help the community and also run into lots of potential friends.

  6. Step 6

Get involved with the Triangle Foundation of Michigan. Volunteer to help with political efforts or to be part of their GLBT film festival, comedy fest or annual dinner.

  7. Step 7

Play ball! Join the Metro Detroit gay softball league or just come to the games to cheer and bond with the fans.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have fun and pursue your own interests. You'll meet like-minded GLBT people in the process.
