Open up Windows Media Player on your computer. Double-click to get it to open. If you are not sure where this is, check your "Start" menu or desktop for an icon that looks like the one pictured here. If you don't have Windows Media Player, you can install it when you click link at the bottom of this article. Windows Media player is a free tool that usually comes installed with Microsoft Windows computers.

  2. Step 2

Once open, click on the "Rip" tab on the top of your computer screen.
Then go ahead and insert your CD. Make sure you are connected to the Internet so it will find track titles.

  3. Step 3

Depending on the settings, the rip (storing process) should start automatically and find the title and track names for the CD. Or if it does not start, then click on the drop down arrow below the rip tab for more options.

  4. Step 4

If want the CD to start ripping automatically, select this option. Your CD as well as all the others will then be placed into Windows Media player library each time. Otherwise, you can click the left side arrow for more choices.

  5. Step 5

While inside that choice screen, you can also select "Only when in the rip tab" or "Never" if you wish. If neither of these are selected, each time you insert a CD into your computer it will save or "Rip" it to your library.

  6. Step 6

The CD may play or eject when it is finished or simply stop. You can control all these settings on the menus of the top of your screen in Windows Media player.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stay connected to the Internet so it will find tracks and titles for you on your CD.
  • The Internet cannot find tracks or album titles from compilation (homemade) CDs.
