Are you tired of that green (with blue, in some versions) guy hogging your computer screen space?

This green guy in your right hand corner is better known as Microsoft Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger. If you do not use Instant Message, this is a waste of time and is inconvenient to have to close it down repeatedly.

These quick steps will help you close this program down for good!

From Quick Guide: Microsoft Support
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet Access
  • MSN Messenger
  • Windows Messenger
  1. Step 1

Start by double-clicking on the "green guy." This could be in the form of Windows Messenger or MSN messenger in the lower left of your computer screen. This brings up the dialog box with menu choices.

  2. Step 2

On the top of the screen you will see a menu. Click "Tools" next to "actions" on that menu.

  3. Step 3

Click "options" and then go to the "Preferences" menu. UNcheck (by clicking on the box itself) "Allow Windows Messenger to Run in the Background" and "Run Windows Messenger when Windows Starts."

  4. Step 4

Click the OK button at the bottom of that same dialog box and click the red "x" to exit out of Windows Messenger entirely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to click "OK" or your changes will not be saved and Windows Messenger will return upon restarting the computer.
