Organize Bookshelves
Organize Bookshelves

Organizing your bookshelves will make it easier to find books and make your shelves more appealing. You'll make knowledge more accessible and enhance the look of your home, all with this one task.

From Quick Guide: Book Shelves 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clean out the bookshelves in your home, and comb through every room and closet and bring all the books to one central location. Don't forget to look in your attic and basement.

  2. Step 2

Dust and clean all the shelves. Use a fine lemon oil to bring out any wood's luster.

  3. Step 3

Sort through your books and group them into categories, such as reference, fiction, history and other genres. Throw out, sell or donate any books you don't think you'll read again. Clean and repair any worn books.

  4. Step 4

Once the books have been categorized, put them into specific rooms and onto the shelves. Match the books to the areas whenever possible. For instance, put the cookbooks in bookshelves near the kitchen.
