Goals are really the best way to achieve anything you want in life. They are the end result of what is you are trying to reach. Whether its personal, spiritual, financial etc., a goall can get you there. But it is more than that. You need to plan out the roadmap to achieve that goal. Hopefully these steps will help you do that.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebook, paper, or something to write on.
  • Something to write with.
  • Desire to achieve and discipline to follow the road map you will create.
  1. Step 1

Determine what it is you want to achieve. Example, I want to lose 10 pounds. NOTE: I want to be thin is not a reachable achievable goal, that is more of a mission statement.

  2. Step 2

Write down the date by which you want to achieve. Example, I want to lose 10 pounds by December 1st.

  3. Step 3

Write down in full detail steps that you will need to accomplish in order to reach your goal. Example, Step 1: Join a gym to get my exercise in. Step 2: Speak to a trainer at the gym to become more educated on what I need to do to maximize my workout effort. Step 3: Plan a healthy nutrition plan...etc.

  4. Step 4

As you complete each step, check them off as completed.

Tips & Warnings
  • This process works for any goal.
  • The more detail you write down for each step, the easier it will be to achieve any goal you set.
  • Always write down your goals and steps. Never assume that you can remember them.
  • Never attempt to achieve goals by yourself. Partnering with good people, counselors, trainers, etc., will help accelerate your success.
  • Never let criticism get you down. All criticism, regardless of how ugly it can be is a good thing. Learn from any criticism you may receive, rework a step or two and move on.

on 6/27/2008 I find it helpful to also have a reward planned for myself. Sure, reaching the goal is a reward, but an additional reward helps.
