The most beautiful piece of furniture looks ready for the trash pile when it has white rings on it. Covering it up helps but rings can almost always be removed with a little ingenuity and a trip to the hardware store. Follow these instructions and you'll soon be able to display your pretty wood furniture in the buff again.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Make a paste made from the salt and mineral oil. Take a handful of salt and add mineral oil a drop or two at a time until a firm wet paste is formed.

  2. Step 2

Apply the paste with a gentle touch. Rub it in a little bit, making sure to put it on in the same direction as the woodgrain. Take the paste off and dry the wood with a soft clean cloth immediately. Polish with your usual furniture polish.

  3. Step 3

Try the second method if you need to. Wet a cloth with lighter fluid and wipe it over the ring. Make a mixture of salad oil and rottenstone into a paste.

  4. Step 4

Apply the paste gently with a clean soft cloth and immediately wipe it off again. Polish your furniture as usual.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy your "newly restored" furniture for years to come.

Tips & Warnings
  • To avoid rings in the future, keep coasters handy and don't put anything hot directly on wood surfaces.
