Taking your dog or cat along for the ride can be a fantastic bonding experience. Traveling with your pet allows you to enjoy the experience together and there are things you can do to ensure your pet's safety and well being.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A collapsible water bowl
  • Pet food
Step1
For convenience, bring a collapsible water bowl with you. You can find these in pets stores and they are ideal for travel because they hold water without spilling and they easily fold back up. Of course, bring your pet's food and any medications he or she is taking.
Step2
Make frequent stops. Allow your dog to stretch and take walks. They can get stiff just like humans do. If you are traveling with a cat on a long trip, consider bringing a cat leash with you.
Step3
If your pet is not confined in a carrier, put an old blanket down on the back seat. This will protect your seats from pet hair and also possible accidents and car sickness.
Step4
Bring along car-safe cleanser and cloths in case of accidents or car sickness.
Step5
If going on an extended trip, find pet-friendly hotels before you leave so you don't find yourself on the road with no place to take your furry friend overnight.
Step6
Give your pet a check-up before going on a long trip. If your pet is prone to nervousness or car sickness, ask the veterinarian for a prescription. Then try your dog or cat out on the prescription a day or two before leaving so you can see how he or she reacts to the medication.
Step7
Bring a favorite toy or two for your pet. This will keep your pooch or kittie comfortable and happy.
