You decided to use cloth diapers on your little ones, but the laundry routine for them is driving you crazy. You're frustrated that it takes a few wash cycles to get your cloth diapers smelling relatively fresh. It's almost enough to make you quit and go back to disposables! Soap Nuts are the best detergent to get rid of all those lingering dirty diaper smells. All it takes is a little soap nuts liquid and two wash cycles and you will have fresh smelling diapers!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dirty cloth diapers
  • Baking soda OR Borax OR Washing Soda
  • Soap Nuts OR Soap Nuts Liquid

Step1
Throw the whole batch of diapers in the wash, and set it to a Cold-Cold wash. This will just be a prewash cycle to get rid of any 'solids' that you could not get rid of by dunking. Add about 1/2c baking soda OR Borax OR washing soda to help eliminate stains and smells.
Step2
When this full cycle is done, turn it to a Hot-Cold wash cycle. At this time, add either 3Tbsp soap nuts liquid OR a small bag with 4 or 5 shells. There is no need to add vinegar because the soap nuts will leave the diapers soft.
Step3
When this cycle is done, take out the diapers and give them a big whiff! (I dare you....) They will smell clean! There will not be any lingering odors nor detergent build-up.
Step4
Dry your diapers as usual.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use hyrdrogen peroxide or lemon juice as natural stain removers.
  • Never use bleach on cloth diapers, as it will ruin the fabric.
