How to Make a Backyard Fish Pond

- Rocks
- Pond Liner
- Plants
- Fish

Decide where in your yard you are going to place the pond. Some place that will get a little sun is good.

Dig a hole. It's up to you as to how long and deep you want to make it, but it's generally advised to dig a minimum of 1 foot by 1 foot.

Place a pond liner along the bottom of the pond so that grass doesn't grow into your pond and the water doesn't seep into the soil.

Place rocks around and in the fish pond. These will help hold down the pond liner. It also creates a decorative border.

Add fish plants and water. Use the water temperature recommended by the pet store.

Add fish. You can also add any other decorative pond items that you like. You'll see tons of these at pet or home improvement stores.

Tips & Warnings
For even more of a splash, you can add a fountain. There are many different types of fountains available from home improvement stores that are easy to make and incorporate into your landscape.
It's good to have an indoor aquarium to place your fish in during the colder months.
These fish also need to be fed with fish food just like indoor fish.
