When it comes to blood pressure cuffs, one size does not fit all. Most people are unaware that the wrong size cuff will affect blood pressure readings. Here's how to determine which size cuff fits you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Using a measuring tape, measure the mid-section of your right upper arm
Step2
Write down the number and repeat the same for your left arm
Step3
If your arm measurements are under 13.3 inches, you will need an adult cuff for an accurate blood reading. Arm measurements of over 13.3 require a Large adult cuff.

Tips & Warnings

  • A smaller cuff may give you a higher than normal reading.
  • A larger cuff may lower your blood pressure result.
  • Accurate readings are necessary for proper medical intervention.
  • If your arm measures larger than 17.3 inches, discuss with your doctor about the use of a Thigh cuff.
