How to Get Rich Quick

Years and years ago when I was sitting in my High School Psychology class my teacher, a youngish man with a B.A. described to the class how the American dream was dead. He went on to complain about how there was no getting ahead and how life was more than unfair and in the end with all the expenses we could only at best hope for some kind of a piece meal existence. He was a pessimist. I learned then, early on, that success comes to those who not only want it, but who strive and go for it without looking back! Is it easy to get rich quick? It depends on who you are and what you are made of. Follow my steps and they'll get you going along the way!

• Drive
• Verve
• Some really good ideas
• Some "seed" money
• Imagination
• Vision

1. 

   DEFINE your goals. What are some of your dreams? Where do you hope to get to? What do you hope to achieve? If you want to succeed in this life and "get rich" quickly, the very first thing you need are some motivational factors. Maybe you want to put your younger brother or sister through college. Perhaps you want to own a home of your own. Maybe you are just sick and tired of struggling. Take a moment and write down a list of the things you want out of this life. You want to get rich quick...you need a reason and it better be a good one!

2. 

   DEFINE your plan. A minister in my church very often would say to us during his fund drives or building projects: "Plan your work and work your plan." In order to get rich quick you have to have a means to get there. In today's incredible world you can come up with just about anything today. Perhaps you have an idea of a website selling widgets, or some such item...well it's possible. Okay, you don't have a computer, or you don't have electricity. Well if you can get to a public library you can learn about website design and use their computers for free to design it. Or maybe you have an idea for an invention? Remember that "necessity is the mother of invention" - as some great thinker said. If you can find a need (meaning something everyone needs, or will soon need) than if you find a way to fill it you'll be rich. You can get patents on the item or even get funding from various sources which you can find again at the library to fund your project. I once met the son of the guy who invented the flip top soda can. He found a need...people were joking on the pull off tabs of soda cans. He designed the flip top opening on the soda can and voila, instant millionaire. The same can be said years ago for the guy that invented the little tabby thing they used to use to roll up tooth paste containers...and then someone else came along with the idea to change what the toothpaste tube was made of! Everyone can find something that needs to be invented. I've often thought it would be good to be able to scroll through your cell phone and find a way to hear all of the messages you've left to people..there's an invention waiting to happen. Whatever it is this is one way to get rich quick. And all you need is the idea. If you can dream it, baby you can achieve it. You are the master of your own destiny. You can make it happen.

3. 

   YOU HAVE TO WANT IT BAD ENOUGH!!!! Everyday people are being discovered on sidewalks of New York and Hollywood for television commercials and the like. I happen to know this because I was myself auditioning some years ago at MEW in NYC and met some kids there who were discovered by the agency while they were riding their skateboards this is your thing. Get out there. If you want it, you can get it! But you have to want it more than anything else. But don't just put on your converse all stars and start heading for the streets! Do the homework. Remember: Plan your work.

4. 

   BE OPEN TO NEW IDEAS! You have to keep your mind free of those things which will bring you down, and believe me there are plenty of people out there who will want to keep you down below them and beneath their feet. I once heard a story of some gold diggers who gave up thinking that there wasn't any gold in the ditch which they were digging. Some years later gold was found two feet lower from where they had stopped. But they stopped and gave up on their dream. Be open to ideas. If you have an idea for getting rich and another thing comes along on your way to the first idea...go for it since the goal isn't the way you get rich, just to be rich. Let's say that you want to become an actress and on your way to the audition you get a snag in your stockings and you figure out a sure fire method to instantly fix this problem or come up with a better idea of stocking! Well that invention can be your sure fire quick rich fix...you can still become the great actress, but how wonderful it would be to have the money to afford stylists, and an entourage of hair and beauty experts!

5. 

   START YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Find your own way! Find out what it is that you are good at and do that thing! Success and happiness can go hand in hand. How much money to you need? How much do you want? Develop your own business strategy! For example, I once found out online that a certain pair of jeans was worth 800. I went out and I found them at a thrift store (for about four dollars!)and sold the jeans online! I took that "seed money" and then I found some shirts which were valuable (Hawaiian prints from the 1950's (up to 500.00 per shirt!) and acid rock t-shirts - bought for a buck a piece (which sell for about 100. a piece) etcetera. And voila! I was in business and it grew and grew and grew, and not just in a second...I put the items up and they went within the week. The amount I had to pay for the ads came from the profits. It cost me nothing but the time I invested snapping the photographs and listing the items. You can do this. Go online. Find out what's selling hot, red hot and then find that thing. Art goes for alot. Do you know you can make as much as 5 million dollars for an original Chagall painting? (And Sotheby's will appraise it for free! and even do the auctioning for you!)And do you know that you can get millions for all kinds of crap that could be at your local church yard sale. I found some Barton Reed Silverware - retails at 80.00 a place setting and I bought it at a thrift store for .35 a piece! I bought six place settings! You can do this. And once you make your first bit of money then you can reinvest it into another thing and another. The next thing you know you are rolling in the dough re me! This can be your dream. You have to get motivated. You have to keep up your pace. And you can't let anyone tell you that it can't be done! You can do it!! People are doing it every day! Look at the founders of the crazy new social sites that are wopping in the dough! It's your dream, you've got to go out and live it!!!

6. STAY FOCUSED! Realize that the hand you may be holding, may be the hand that holds you down! STAY HEALTHY! You are going to need every bit of strength you have to get where you need to be. And realize this, sometimes what you think is going to be your ultimate goal to getting rich quick, may only be that thing that gets you in the right direction. Be open to every opportunity. Find your strength from within. Remember you have strengths and abilities..find out what they are. Maybe you are better at counting beans than anybody...turn that into something that you can do well. Do a common thing, uncommonly well (to quote HJ Heinz's mother - ketchup mogul). In order to get rich quickly, you need to find the thing that will get you there. It takes brains and the courage to forge ahead. You can do this! And when you do, please tell old Richard so we can motivate the rest of the planet!

Tips & Warnings

• Remember Money really doesn't buy you happiness. It's nice to have more money, but with more money there comes a host of other problems. Getting rich can be fun, as long as you don't let it go to your head. Remember what is important in life: true honesty, integrity, frienships and love. These things can not be gained through money alone. Enjoy your success but don't forget those who help you along the way, or who brought you to where you are standing now. As a friend of mine once said, "no amount of success in the world can change the way my life was before my success, it takes years of hard work to undo damage. And no amount of success will take away that true love or friendship I had before hand." Don't forget what you already have. And no matter how rich you get, take pains to keep what you already have. Keep what's good, lose what's bad.
• We need more things in this life. We need more inventions and ideas. The motivation to get rich quick has brought about some of the greatest inventions ever - like the internet! It was the graphic interface that moved us beyond the military!
• You alone can be your best friend or your worst enemy. But people all around you are getting rich quick...and how do we know this? Just look at how young they are? Estee Lauder started by peddling makeup from door to door! If you can visualize it, you can achieve it! Remember, how did the Egyptians build the pyramids? Well as my old History prof. used to say, "they didn't know it couldn't be done, so they went ahead and did it!" You can do that thing, whatever it is! Believe in yourself!
• If you have a good idea, don't be afraid to ask your parents/friends/relatives to invest in your dream.
• If you have a good business plan, you can get a loan from the bank to bank roll you.

• Don't fall for get rich quick real estate ventures, they don't work. Investigate anything online before you even bother.
• Spend your money on your own pursuits. You can get rich quick, but it also takes hard work and smart thinking
• Do not fall for pyramid schemes which usually make you broke and turn all your friends against you.
• Remember that your ideas should come from within. MySpace was an idea, Facebook was an idea, HJ Heinz sold Worcester sauce in a clear bottle so that people could see it didn't have the splinters the other sauces were selling..that's how he made it. But protect your ideas. Always leave a key element out about how you're going to do something..lest your plan get stolen by your BFF.
• Ask for God's guidance. I find this always helps.
