how to get an idea of how child support is determined

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • incomes of both parents
  • daycare expense
  • health insurance expense

Step1
Child support is determined based on various figures/items.

It is based on the weekly gross income for both parents ( income before taxes)

The number of children and the ages of the children. If any child is 13 years of age or older then there will be a 10 % increase in a weekly child support order.
Step2
Child support can also be affected if the non-custodial parent has another child they pay child support for. This figure will be taken into consideration.

The person providing health insurance for the child will be given a credit/financially for doing so. Usually this figure will be half the weekly cost. Weekly daycare actually paid will also effect a child support order.
Step3
All of the above will effect the determination of a weekly child support order. If a non-custodial parent is on TAFDC or SSDI they may not be ordered to pay child support.

In the end the Judge will have the final say on anything that may effect a child support order. The above is just a suggested guideline to learn how the figure is determined.
