There is nothing like fresh flowers in the middle of the gray months of winter, especially a huge red amaryllis. It is great fun to watch it grow day by day until one day it is just there in all its glory! Unlike most, I cannot bear to throw it away after the bloom has shriveled. Here are a few hints to make your amaryllis bloom again.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
After your amaryllis has finished blossoming and the flowers have wilted, cut them back as far as possible (not the leaves).
Step2
Continue to water indoors until the weather has warmed to about 65 degrees. Plant outside in a shady part of your garden. Water and fertilize twice a month.
Step3
Before the frost hit, dig up plant, repot and bring indoors. Place in a closet or under the sink and allow to dry out. Trim off dead growth.
Step4
In midwinter, re-pot the dry bulb in a pot with a diameter about 2 inches larger than that of the bulb. Use regular potting soil and fill about two thirds full. Water regularly.
Step5
In a few weeks, you should have another beautiful blossom!
Step6
That's it. If you have found this article of interest, please take a second to rate it.
