How to Pick Outdoor Decorative Banners for Durability

It's the little things that make a house more homey, and one of those things can be a welcome banner waving in the breeze in front of your house. I like to change these banners with the seasons and for holidays, and I've found that by choosing the right materials for these banners, you can get more than one season of use from them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Flag pole holder you can attach to your house
  • Wooden or metal flag pole to fit holder
  • Decorative banners
Step1
When shopping for durable banners, avoid the banners printed on soft, polyester-type fabric. These banners are often prettier than some of the others, but they don't stand up to the elements. Wind, sun and rain will destroy them, often in less than a few weeks of use, and they will fray and tatter, looking unsightly.
Step2
Look for banners that contain sewed-on (appliqué) elements. These layers make them stronger and more durable. They may be a little more expensive, but they will last longer, making them cheaper in the long run.
Step3
Look for banners made out of stiffer or thicker materials. These banners will soften up a little with age, but they will retain their color and shape much better than cheaper banners.
Step4
Change your banner often, to keep it in good shape for years to come!
