How to Volunteer at Special Olympics as a Student

Volunteering is not only a good thing to do, it also gives you an insight into someone else's world. One program always looking for volunteers is Special Olympics. The great thing about Special Olympics is there are locations all across the world and it's very easy to volunteer for a day, year or lifetime.

How to become involved in Special Olympics

1. One of the easiest ways to volunteer is via the Internet. Go to specialolympics.org (see link in the Resources section below). At the bottom of the site is a link to volunteer and find local programs and the answers to questions such as what does a volunteer do. There are several options, but one answer is if you have limited time is helping out at a competition by being an athlete escort, awards presenter, scorekeeper, timer, driver or fan.
2. If you are located near a college or attending a college, ask the special education department or local Best Buddies organization. They have flyers for volunteers when a competition is coming to the school.
3. Be a fan. Everyone gets excited to see they are being cheered on by a crowd.
