Things You'll Need:
- Money
- Time
-
Step 1
The closest major cities to Lake Tahoe are Reno, Sacramento and San Francisco. All three have airports with ground transportation options available. Research the best airport and road system for your travel needs.
-
Step 2
A few days before you are scheduled to leave, check the weather forecast. Make sure all the major roads and airports are open and check for predicted snow that may interfere with your travel plans. If snow is predicted, make sure to get an early start on your travel day.
-
Step 3
Weekends and holidays can get busy at Lake Tahoe. Reserve your hotel before hand. Hotels abound in Truckee, Tahoe City, Tahoe Vista, Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe. Make sure to coordinate where you are staying with where you want to ski.
-
Step 4
If you have children, make sure you have booked a babysitting service or ski-school classes for them ahead of time.
-
Step 5
Make the most of your visit by booking a truly special event, such as a horse-drawn carriage ride, a snowmobile tour or a dog sledding trip. There are many options available on the Internet.
