Composition books like the notebooks you use in school make wonderful scrap art creations. The notebooks come in various sizes and can be used for many different purposes. Mini-comp books work well for shopping lists or taking notes to remember things. The larger comp books can be used for school assignments or as a personal diary.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

  • Scrapbook paper
  • Paper trimmer

Select the size of notebook and decide the purpose of the composition book. Then select a pattern or color combination.

  2. Step 2

Cut your paper to cover the entire composition book. For larger books you may want to cut separate pieces of paper for the front and back covers.

  3. Step 3

For a more finished look use a corner rounder to round the corners of the paper so it matches on the rounded corners on your composition book.

  4. Step 4

Glue the paper to cover the notebook. If you are using liquid adhesive be sure to use it sparingly and use a bone folder or plastic card to smooth out any wrinkles in the paper.

  5. Step 5

Cut a 2-inch strip of paper to cover the binding of the book so you don’t see where the two separate pieces of paper split. You can decorate the paper strip first by using stitching or metal embellishments like brads, eyelets, etc. This strip will unite both sides of the composition book and create a decorative binding for the notebook.

  6. Step 6

Proceed to decorate the front and back of your composition book with stamped images, chipboard letters or frames, die cuts, stickers and more.

  7. Step 7

Once you are finished use your notebook for school, journaling or scheduling. You could also give it as a gift to someone special.

Tips & Warnings
  • When creating your decorated comp book you need to make sure to limit the amount of glue that you use so you don’t get the paper too wet; this may cause wrinkles or damage your scrapbook paper.
  • Use a strong adhesive for embellishments so that you don’t have items falling off the notebook.
  • If your paper does not fit the book exactly instead of try to trim the edges you can use a fine sandpaper to smooth out the excess paper and mold it into your notebook cover.
