Things You'll Need:
- Notecards
- Pen
- Address labels
- Stamps
-
Step 1
Start by writing the standard introduction, whether it be "To Jane Doe," "Dear Jane Doe" or your own creative selection.
-
Step 2
Start by naming the gift they gave to you and when they gave it to you, so that they know they haven't been given a generic note that you've been sending to everyone. For example, if you were given a toaster you may want to write "Thank you so much for the lovely gift you gave me for my birthday! The toaster was a perfect selection!"
-
Step 3
Next, name one characteristic about the gift that you especially like. If you don't particularly like the gift, point out on aspect that makes the gift unique or useful. For example, if you received a red toaster, you may want to write "The color goes perfectly with the theme of my kitchen, and it will certainly get a lot of use with those morning waffles I love."
-
Step 4
Mention one positive aspect about the gift-giver that you appreciate. This step is especially important in showing your gratitude for both the person AND the gift. For example, if you are writing to an especially creative friend, you may want to write "I'm always awed by the way you make even such a simple occasion something special. Thank you for your presents (and your presence), but especially for just having me in your life!"
-
Step 5
Close the note with your favorite saying, whether it be "Love" or "Sincerely," or something more personal. The choice is yours.
-
Step 6
You may want to consider adding a "P.S." to write a memorable moment from the occasion. For examples, you may want to write "I'll never forget the look on your face when I tripped over the steps!" It's important to close the note with something to make the recipient smile or laugh.
