Step 1
The earlier the fundraising for an After Prom party begins, the more resources you will be able to tap and the more funds you will gather. The start of a school year is a good time to start thinking about this special party that's probably nine months away.
-
Step 2
Search for grants from local, county or state drug and alcohol councils.
-
Step 3
Search for grants or donations from community organizations that support local and/or youth causes. This could be local United Ways, Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs or other service organizations.
-
Step 4
Solicit monetary donations from local churches.
-
Step 5
Solicit monetary donations from your municipality.
-
Step 6
Solicit monetary donations from the parents of the students that will be attending, stressing that the donation will be helping to keep their children safe after the Prom. Suggest an actual amount that every parent should donate.
-
Step 7
Solicit monetary or product donations from the business community.
-
Step 8
During the school year, have a bucket near the cash registers in the cafeteria. The change the students will drop in those buckets adds up quickly.
-
Step 9
Ask other organizations and clubs at the high school to assume part of the cost of the After Prom. They can sponsor one of the activities or provide a major door prize.
-
Step 10
Fundraising takes time and sometimes many reminders. Set a drop-dead date for raising your funds. As the event nears and you still don't have the funds you need, threaten to cancel the event. Many of the procrastinators will send in the money quickly. An alternate method is to begin reducing the size of the event until you have the funds to cover all activities.
