Ebay is now loaded with professional sellers that appear to have monopolized the auction market and have made it much harder to find a great deal. Fear not, here are some tips and tricks to help you sniff out the best bargains on Ebay straight from the Gift Therapist, Jennifer Melnick Carota!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with internet access.

Step1
The key to finding great deals is to find the few novice sellers that are out there just trying to make a buck! Here are some pointers on how to locate them!
Step2
Novice sellers usually have a feedback score of under 100 but way under the thousands that professional sellers have. Be sure to read the seller feedback section, both for buyer AND seller transactions before you bid to make sure previous customers have been satisfied.
Step3
Novice sellers are just trying to get SOMETHING for their unwanted items, so they usually start the bidding very low to get the bidding started. Shipping rates are usually right on the money, without any additional handling charges.
Step4
Novice sellers usually do not include a gallery picture, but will have one posted in their item's profile. It's always a good idea to think twice before you bid on an item that does not have a picture. Buyer beware!
Step5
Pictures from novices are "raw" meaning that they took them from a camera phone or didn't take the time to make the presentation look super professional with stock photos, etc. This is actually a great thing because you can see the actual item you are bidding on rather than a picture of a stock item that may not be the item you are actually bidding on!
Step6
Novice sellers rarely spend the extra time and money to beef up their item description page with fancy formating and extensive item descriptions. The item description page is very basic with few bells and whistles.

Tips & Warnings

  • Communication is key on Ebay and if you have any questions be sure to ask the seller questions before you bid. Same goes for your end of the deal. Be sure to bid only when you are prepared to win and pay for your item. The success of this system relies on the honesty and integrity of the buyers and sellers!
