Things You'll Need:
- Note card
- Paper
- Name and address of the person who gave you the gift
-
Step 1
Use a plain Thank You note. A purchased card may have a cute verse inside, but a plain card usually has more room to write an appropriate amount.
-
Step 2
Handwrite your notes and your envelopes. Send them via the post office. Some people feel an email is enough, but everyone likes to receive a handwritten letter. Pretty handwriting is not necessary, but do try and write legibly.
-
Step 3
As you start to write your note, make sure you include a greeting. Don’t just start with, “Thanks for…” For example, "Hello! It was so nice to see you at our wedding…”
-
Step 4
Mention the gift, as well as an attribute of the gift. Examples might be “the oak shelf” or the “silver picture frame.” Make sure the gift giver knows that you are aware of which gift he gave you. He may have spend considerable time picking the gift out.
-
Step 5
Talk about what you did or will be doing with the gift. An appropriate line would say, “The navy towels you gave us match our bathroom wonderfully. They look great hanging on the towel rack.”
-
Step 6
Use an appropriate closing. If you are not close to the gift giver, a simple “Thanks Again” will work. If writing a close family member, you may sign “Love” or some other sentiment.
-
Step 7
If appropriate, include a photo of you using the gift. A picture of your baby in clothing given as a gift will be treasured by grandparents.
-
Step 8
Send your Thank You notes promptly to the gift giver’s home address.
