Did you know that you can turn some Windows visual effects on and off? You can choose from effects such as shadows, 3-D and watermarks and change icon sizes. Some effects are changed through “Display Properties," while others are changed through “System Properties."

How to Change Visual Effects in “Display Properties”

Step1
Click the “Start Button” and then click “Control Panel." In older versions of Windows, click on “Settings” and then “Control Panel."
Step2
Double-click “Display."
Step3
Click on the “Appearance” tab, and then click “Effects."
Step4
In the “Effects” dialog box, choose the effects you want on or off and select or deselect the corresponding check box. Click “OK," “Apply” and then “OK” again.

How to Change Visual Effects in System

Step1
Click the “Start Button” and then click “Control Panel." In older versions of Windows, click on “Settings” and then “Control Panel."
Step2
Double-click “System."
Step3
Click on the “Advanced” tab. Under “Performance,” click “Settings."
Step4
Click on the “Visual Effects” tab and then click “Custom."
Step5
Select or unselect the check boxes for the corresponding effects. Click “Apply” and “OK” on the “Performance Options” dialog box. Click “OK” to close the “System Properties” box.
