Creating a trademark or trade name for an invention or business.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • prototype, sample of actual product, or patent specification.
  • several sheets of paper.

Step1
* for each feature, and on each sheet, write only a few descriptive words.
Step2
* at the bottom of each feature description sheet, transfer name(s) of industries that can use your invention.
Step3
* a pattern of names should emerge. E.g. electronic products, if also made out of large pieces of metal (usually are), requires maintenance (usually do)- a good place to start for a solid trademark or tradename is “Lubetron®” a fictitious name we created. Notice that getting a trademark is recommended.

Tips & Warnings

  • Now back to creating a tradename or trademark for your new product or business. As an Inventor or executive, you probably do not have the time to create and research a tradename professionally.
  • Anyone is free to grab the above fictitious trademark we created for illustration purposes- let us know if you do intend to do so!
