The fact is, as you get older, you don't hit the golf ball as far or as straight as you once did. So, what can you do about that? It is a question that every "experienced" golfer probably wants answered. The answer is three things: equipment, fitness level, and swing mechanics. The first only requires that you whip out your checkbook or credit card and buy the latest clubs that boast greater distance and accuracy. The last two require a lot of work. Here's what you should know about them to improve your golf game.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Equipment does make a difference in how far you drive the ball. TV and print ads from the manufacturers lure us to the pro shop to pick up a new driver by promising to give us another 20 yards on every drive. But you can't forget that a bad swing will produce a bad result, regardless of any new driver you may have just purchased.
Step2
The fitness level of an individual while swinging a club is far different than bench pressing or squatting. They contribute to "weight room strength," and you'll be hard pressed to find a bodybuilder on the pro tours. And your fitness level becomes even more critical as you get older.

The mechanics of the golf swing require the attributes of flexibility, balance, stability, strength, endurance, and power for maximum perform. If your body does not have these capacities then you will have a less than optimal swing, leading to unsatisfactory results.

Regardless of how much time you spend working on your swing mechanics, if your body does not have the fitness level to support your swing, you are limiting your potential.
Step3
The mechanics of the swing are important whether on the tee, in the fairway, or in the rough. If you are older, it is essential for you to work hard on your swing mechanics, week in and week out, to improve your game. If swings mechanics weren't that important, why would tour players rely on swing coaches to make sure they are swinging properly? The golf swing is such a fine, mechanically complex movement, it requires constant attention to make it work for you.

Find a good instructor and take lessons on a frequent basis. This can only help your game in the long run.
