Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Before your start writing your press release, research online to find out about free press release distributions sites, such as PR.com, Openpr.com and prleap.com. Pick the ones you would like to list with.
Step2
Although these websites do not charge a fee to post on their sites, most have strict guidelines that you must follow when writing your press release. Consult these guidelines prior to writing your press release. If you have already written your press release, read it over to make sure it includes the required information.
Step3
Write your press release using the guidelines provided by the press release distribution website. Remember to make your press release engaging and informative, almost as if you were writing an article about your event. If a journalist is intrigued by your press release, they may contact you for an interview or more information.
Step4
Read your press release aloud, correcting any awkward phrases, grammatical errors or typos. Nothing looks more unprofessional than a poorly edited press release.
Step5
Register with your PR sites and follow their instructions for posting. Use a legitimate e-mail address on your account, as they may need to contact you prior to posting your release.
Step6
Once your press release is posted, increase traffic by placing a link to the post on any social networking site profiles or blogs you might have.
Step7
Be prepared to articulately answer any questions from inquiring journalists. If you are not contacted, do not get discouraged. Doing your own PR takes practice and determination, and PR campaigns need time to work.
