You can revive an old picture frame or enhance a new one with wood stain. Using wood stain, the color on this frame will penetrate the wood but still leave the wood grain showing through.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wooden frame, sanded smooth
  • Alcohol based woodstain
  • Methyl alcohol
  • Glass bowl
  • Rubber gloves
  • 1" flat sable paintbrush
  • Acrylic varnish and brush
  1. Step 1

Place the paint into a small bowl and using rubber gloves and the paintbrush, apply the paint in long, even strokes.

  2. Step 2

Repeat along all four sides of the frame and allow to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Two or three coats may be desired. When it is the shade you are happy with, apply a coat of acrylic varnish. Leave to dry.

  4. Step 4

Apply extra coats of varnish, as needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a translucent finish, dilute the woodstain with a little methyl alcohol.
