It's a sad reality. Weddings are expensive, and after all the fees and deposits it may seem impossible to find the extra money to pay for your honeymoon. Even if you’re on a shoe-string budget, it’s still possible to get that important finishing touch on your event booked. Be diligent and creative and before you know it you’ll be happily relaxing with your new spouse.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider a short honeymoon. You don’t have to go away for eight or ten days to have a honeymoon. A long weekend can give the same feeling of rest and relaxation without breaking the bank.

  2. Step 2

Honeymoon locally. It may seem like the point of a honeymoon is to go far away from home to get a vacation, but staying locally might be a cheaper option for many people. Look for local resorts, spas, or islands that offer holiday packages and see if they have discounts for honeymooning couples.

  3. Step 3

Look for last minute deals with airlines and hotels. If you can bite your tongue and wait it out, you may be able to find last minute deals that will save you lots of cash.

  4. Step 4

Search out package deals with travel agencies. Many agencies will offer package deals that work out less than if you had planned the trip yourself.

  5. Step 5

Consider an off-season honeymoon. If you’re marriage will take place during the spring or summer, consider postponing your honeymoon until the autumn to take advantage of off-season rates.

  6. Step 6

Be creative. Honeymoons do not have to mean you spend a week lazing on a beach in the sun. Consider hiking or kayaking trips, or other hobby-oriented trips to make your honeymoon truly memorable.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you comparison shop. If you’re looking at a package deal from an agency, try to find out how much it would cost for you to arrange a similar trip yourself. It may work out less expensive, depending on the time of year.
  • Check with friends or family that own holiday homes. They may be willing to loan it to you as a wedding gift so you don’t have to pay for honeymoon accommodation.
