Want to try out some curly locks, but don't have an iron or curlers? Creating spirals is simple if you follow these easy steps. This style of curl is known as a "pincurl."

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bobby pins
  • Water
  • Bandana
  • Styling spray
  • Hair elastics
  1. Step 1

Start with hair fresh out of the shower. Towel dry hair until barely damp.

  2. Step 2

Comb hair into natural part. Keeping the natural part intact, seperate hair into 3 sections vertically and bind with hair elastics. If you have thick hair, you may want to consider seperating into more sections, as it will give a more defined curl.

  3. Step 3

Let hair in the uppermost ponytail loose. Begin to seperate this hair into squares, starting at one side and working towards the opposite side of your head.

  4. Step 4

Start at one side and grab small squares of hair. These should be no more than 1-inch thick and high. Twist your first square until your hairlooks like a tube or dreadlock.

  5. Step 5

If you continue to twist this square will naturally curl towards your head. You can also twist the rope of hair onto itself, so that it twists into a circle at your scalp.

  6. Step 6

Secure this twist with bobby pins forming the shape of an "X." Insert one first, then the other, making sure they keep the curl tight.

  7. Step 7

Continue this process from one side to the other. When finished with one section, release the next vertical section and repeat.

  8. Step 8

When finished, tie a bandana over the curls and sleep on them.

  9. Step 9

In the morning, remove the bandana and all the bobby pins. You will be left with tight coils of hair. Hand seperate these coils for spiraly curls. Do not brush. Style by hand and spray with a finishing product for hold.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your curls aren't dry by morning, dry lightly with a blowdryer.
