How to Find an Integrated Church For African-Americans

With all the strides made in race relations and integration, we can see that Sunday mornings are possibly still the most segregated times in American's week. For African-Americans looking for a church and considering integrated churches, below are some steps you can use to determine whether a church is truly accepting of African-American members.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Write and ask for a copy of the church' s bulletin. Send a SASE. The more accommodating the church is to unusual requests, the more likely they are accepting of African-American members.
Step2
Check out the church' s website. Look for images of African-Americans. Check to see if any of the staff are African-American. Check to see if any of the programs/ministries address the needs of minorities and/or special groups.
Step3
Drive by the church before church or before other services. Check to see if any African-Americans are entering the building. Even drive through the parking lot and see what types of looks you get - smiles or frowns.
Step4
Call the church and ask about the church demographics. Or if bold enough, ask outright if African-Americans are welcome.
Step5
Pray and seek peace regarding your church choice.

Tips & Warnings

  • The best way to know for sure is to visit the church and see how well you are received.
