Though it is roughly the size of the United States, the population of Australia is only 21 million. However, each year, tourists, travelers and backpackers visit to experience beautiful scenery, unusual wildlife and unique culture. Many of these travelers come on working holiday visas and attempt to find jobs. When applying to any business, large or small, or company, it is important to format your resume in the Australian style. Small details such as changes in spelling and the way items are organized can make a big difference in a competitive job market.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Center your full name, bolded, at the top of the page.

  2. Step 2

Underneath your name, type the name of the country in which you hold citizenship. If you are not Australian, include the sort of visa you hold, its number and expiration date. When typing the date, remember it is written day/month/year.

  3. Step 3

On the next centered line, type your mailing address and your residence address.

  4. Step 4

On another centered line type your mobile phone number (not your cell phone number).

  5. Step 5

Align to the left and type “Summary of Skills,” bold and underlined. Underneath this heading, include a bulleted list your workplace skills and any certifications or credentials you may have. Australians use “Australian English” so many words such as “organized” are spelled “organised.” Additionally, a “u” is added to many words such as “colour.” Be careful with this.

  6. Step 6

Skip a space and title another section “Work Experience,” bold and underlined. Under this category write the dates you were employed (day/month/year), your titles and job locations. Underneath each job listing, bullet an explanation of your duties. Keep the bulleted explanation short. Start with the most recent job and work backwards.

  7. Step 7

Skip a space and title another section “Education,” bold and underlined. Under this category, type the school names, the years you attended and any degrees you achieved. High School Diploma is known as HSC equivalent.

  8. Step 8

Skip a space and title a section “Special Interests,” bold and underlined. Under this category place a bullet and include any hobbies and personal interests. This last section personalizes your resume.

Tips & Warnings
