Find something attractive in your home that you can use for a vase. I used a small cooking dish, which saved money since I didn't have to purchase a vase.
Step2
Go to a nursery near you and purchase bamboo. Remember, it is believed that this plant brings fortune, luck and long life, but you need to put them together in odd numbers! I used 3 in my arrangement, all of differing heights.
Step3
I already had some stones, but if you need to purchase them, your local dollar store is a great choice. You will only need 1 bag, if that, for an arrangement similar to the one pictured. The stones I chose are black river rocks to add contrast to the white dish and green plants.
Step4
Place bamboo in the center of the vase, arranging them so the tallest is toward the back, then the next tallest, then smallest toward the front. Hold them with one hand to keep in place and use your other hand to fill the vase with the stones until they reach the top.
Step5
Put water into the vase and enjoy! The arrangement you see only cost me approximately $6, which was the cost of the bamboo stalks!
Tips & Warnings
When looking for a vase, a beautiful square dish works great. I have used both clear glass and white ceramic, and both look wonderful.
They are easy to grow in just water! No fertilizer required.
Change water every 7-10 days.
Do not let plants dry out.
Once rooted, they may be planted in soil, but you may keep them in water indefinitely.
They can be grown indoors just about anywhere, but avoid direct sun.
They make beautiful housewarming gifts, arrangements, party favors, home or office plants.
This gets addictive! I have made larger arrangements for less than $10 that retail for $30-$40, and gave them to friends as gifts. They loved them! I also have made smaller ones, by using clear glass votives and single bamboo stalks with small rocks to create beautiful dinner place settings. My dinner guests insisted on taking them home!
